Unlike some ski resorts, Steamboat has beginner ski trails spread throughout the resort’s 2,965 acres, giving beginners access to great views and freedom to roam all over the resort. With nearly 14 percent of the resort classified for beginners, Steamboat is a wonderful place to learn to ski. First timers will appreciate the “learn to ski” zones at the base area and at Preview chairlift. Thunderhead Express and Burgess Creek chairlift are the next step up for beginners.

- Lower Mountain: The lower portion of Steamboat Resort provides the perfect venue for beginners warming up. To access an array of easy, breezy green runs to get your legs under you, take the Christie Peak lift up to the first offload point.
- Wally World: A popular children’s learn area, Wally World not only provides the perfect terrain for fine-tuning technique, but it’s also one of the most fun area’s on the mountain!
- Why Not: Although it’s the resort’s longest run, Why Not’s three miles is gentle and fun and provides beginners with the perfect opportunity to really practice their skills. Originating at the top of the gondola, this trail zig zags all over the mountain and spits you back out down at the base.
- Rough Rider Basin: A popular congregation for snowsports school Rough Rider Basin is a nice easy green with various little jumps and rollers for kids and kids at heart to play on.
